RISKWISE™ is licensed in China

The Centre for Boiler & Pressure Vessel Inspection & Research (CBPVI) of the Peoples Republic of China became an Associate Partner Licensee of TWI's risk-based inspection and maintenance software - RISKWISE™. CBPVI, part of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, purchased RISKWISE™ as part of their inspection, quality and technical supervision business activities. Engineers from CBPVI visited TWI for 3 days for training in the use of RISKWISE™.

The software products supplied and the associated training covered power boilers and process plant applications.

Chemical Plants in Japan choose RISKWISE for Process Plants™

RISKWISE for Process Plants™ is being adopted by Japanese speciality chemical companies, Mitsui Chemicals and Tosoh Corporation. These are the latest organisations in the Japanese chemical sector to choose RISKWISE™ which is being supplied through TTS-TLV, TWI's partner in Japan. The license sales followed seminars held by TLV in Tokyo and Kakagowa last year. (TTS is a subsidiary company of TLV Co. Ltd).

RISKWISE for Boilers™ goes to Japan

Last year, TWI conducted a training course on TWI's RISKWISE™ software for Babcock Hitachi KK and their offices in Kure, Japan. The course was requested following the purchase of a RISKWISE™ software license for risk-based maintenance of boiler plant. The software, which forms part of TWI's services to power generating companies is aimed at reducing maintenance costs whilst maximising plant availability. Babcock Hitachi purchased the software to assist in their services to the Japanese electric power utilities.

LNG Plant uses RISKWISE™

TWI has completed a year-long RBI assessment project for QatarGas. QatarGas pioneered the LNG business in Qatar in the 1990s and is located in Ras Laffan Industrial City, which is one of the world's fastest growing industrial export locations. The aim of the project was to implement RISKWISE™ to demonstrate the benefits of adopting RBI for the management of pressure equipment in LNG Train #1.

Pre-formatted data collection spreadsheets were sent electronically to QatarGas and the available data for RISKWISE™ were provided by QatarGas. Two TWI RBI engineers were deployed to Qatar to facilitate the process which included a 'Focus/Defocus' session to optimise inspection plans for equipment with a low Risk of Failure (RoF), and to propose remedial and mitigating actions for equipment with a high RoF.

In summary, the findings demonstrated how an incremental increase in inspection interval was feasible for approximately 50% of the equipment assessed.

RBI workshop 'road show' - a success in South Africa

TWI's RBI workshop in April 2003 during the '7th International Colloquium on Asset Management of Aged Plant and Materials: Assessment Methods' in Cape Town was well attended by organisations throughout RSA. The one-day workshop, which is also conducted at company premises is being offered to oil and gas, petrochemical and chemical companies as well as electric power companies worldwide.

The workshop includes an introduction to RBI codes and standards followed by practical case studies and customised exercises using RISKWISE™ software. It is suitable for companies and company personnel who require a full understanding and wish to gain competence and best-practice compliance in the process of implementing RBI tools and thereby to fully realise the benefits that can be accrued.

As part of its technology transfer campaign, TWI is currently offering these workshops free of charge to interested organisations.(NB: For workshops held outside the UK a nominal charge will be made to cover one TWI person's economy travel and subsistence costs).
