RISKWISE for Process Plant and Pipelines applied to upstream assets in West Java

Following the Indonesian state-owned oil and gas company, Pertamina's 100% purchase of BP West Java, Pertamina's wholly owned subsidiary, PT Pertamina Hulu Energy (PHE) has taken over operatorship of the offshore North West Java assets.  PHE's operating assets include flow stations, remote offshore platforms and onshore assets comprising 1,500 pressure vessels, 13,000 sections of piping and 370 pipelines. Most of these items, by virtue of their age pose significant asset integrity risks. Concerns also exist regarding the quality of historical data.

Based on these challenges, PHE has trusted TWI and PT. Trihasco Utama (TWI's Local Partner in Indonesia) to make a detailed assessment of how PHE can move towards a formal risk management approach with appropriate KPIs over the next three years. RISKWISE was central to this aim and is being used for assisting in the production of the following deliverables: inspection procedures for pressure vessels, piping, pipelines & heat exchangers; inspection methods, data management procedures, risk-based inspection implementation process documentation, quantitative analysis methods, etc.

RISKWISE implemented at PTT Exploration and Production Siam Limited in Thailand

The PTTEP Siam Limited in Thailand has implemented the RISKWISE Oil and Gas suite at their LPG and crude oil production facility in Sirorat, Thailand. The packages implemented were RISKWISE for Process Plant, RISKWISE for Boilers, RISKWISE for Tanks and RISKWISE for Pipelines. The implementation was conducted by TWI's engineers from TWI's Malaysia office. The work comprised a one-day RBI background training and four days RISKWISE interactive training at PTTEP's Sirorat site. The training was provided to PTTEP engineers from maintenance, inspection, asset management and operations functions.

According to PTTEP's inspection engineer Mr. Paison Areeniyom, the outputs from RISKWISE will be helpful for them in managing their maintenance and inspection activities. He also commented that the risk profile produced by RISKWISE is readily presentable to their management and communities around the plant.

TWI gets high visibility at Middle East Conference

RISKWISE at Middle East Corrosion ConferenceDr Iba Al-Adel, a past National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) President presents Brian Cane with a gift after his invited plenary lecture at the 13th Middle East Corrosion Conference in Bahrain in February 2010. Dr Cane's paper on "Operational Excellence through Asset Maintenance Optimisation" included a series of illustrative RISKWISE case studies and was the opening lecture at the conference which was attended by more than 600 delegates worldwide. Dr Chi-Ming Lee from TWI's Materials & Corrosion Group also presented a paper on Corrosion Resistant Alloys at the conference.

Seminars in Thailand well received

Thailand was the venue for two successful TWI seminars on Risk-Based Asset Management and Life Assessment. With organisational support from Thai Non Destructive Testing pcl (TWI's local representative company in Thailand) the events attracted around 30 delegates from power, oil & gas and chemical companies. The seminars, held in Bangkok and in the industrial zone of Rayong, received highly positive feedback with most interest centred on risk-based inspection.
